Week 14 Fantasy Football Advice

By Steve Tsilimos | Posted 1 year ago

Some of the fantasy world will enter their first week of the playoffs in Week 14. For others, this week will be their last regular season game. Either way, there will be a massive amount riding on the outcome of this week's contests for many fantasy managers.

Week 13 was headlined by QB Jalen Hurts and the entire Eagles' passing attack. Hurts’ 34 fantasy points were the high score of the week, and his efficiency through the air helped his two receivers finish inside the top-10 at the position. WR A.J. Brown scored 27.9 points, and WR DeVonta Smith put up 18.7 points.

The top-tier receivers have been dominating all year long, but who right now is trending up and can make a huge impact in winning your pivotal Week 14 matchup?

Teams on a Bye in Week 14

Week 14 is the last week that teams will be on a bye in the NFL. The last teams to receive a bye this season are the Atlanta FalconsChicago BearsGreen Bay PackersIndianapolis ColtsNew Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders, who all have a Week 14 bye.

Notable Injuries from Week 13

• Ravens QB Lamar Jackson suffered a sprained left PCL in the Week 13 win over the Broncos. He will be sidelined for two to three weeks.
• Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (calf) was ruled out against the Chiefs. Hurst is doubtful for Week 14.
• Browns WR David Bell did not return with a hand injury against the Texans and is questionable for Week 14.
• Broncos WR Courtland Sutton (hamstring) did not return against the Ravens and is day-to-day.
Rams QB Matthew Stafford has a spinal cord contusion, and there's a "good chance" he is done for the season, per head coach Sean McVay.
• Eagles WR Quez Watkins sprained his AC joint in his shoulder and did not return in Week 13.
• 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo broke his foot during Sunday's win over Miami and will undergo season-ending surgery.
• Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker is dealing with a jammed ankle and is questionable this week.
• Titans WR Treylon Burks has entered the league’s concussion protocol. He was slow to get up and did not return after getting hit in the head on a first-quarter TD.

Players Trending Down

Buccaneers QB Tom Brady @ San Fransisco: Sit

Tom Brady is coming off his best two weeks of fantasy football since Weeks 4 and 5, scoring 18 points in each of the past two weeks. Brady and the Bucs' offense was quiet until late in the fourth quarter of their 17-16 win over the Saints on MNF. Even though Brady is slightly trending up, his date with the best defense in the league makes him a risky start in Week 14. The 49ers' defense is only allowing 15 points per game, and the Bucs are struggling to score points. Brady could be a great play for the final weeks of the season because the Bucs will need to win but stay away this week.

Dolphins RB Jeff Wilson @ Los Angeles Chargers: Sit

Jeff Wilson had one carry for three yards and failed to record a catch in the Dolphins' loss to the 49ers. It is not at all surprising that the former Niner couldn’t get anything going against his old team because they have given up the least fantasy points to RBs this season. What’s concerning is that RB Raheem Mostert started once again and had seven rushes compared to Wilson’s one. The Dolphins travel to Los Angeles this Sunday, which will provide a much easier matchup that could result in more opportunities for Wilson. That being said, I still struggle to trust him when Mostert is clearly ahead of him.

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton vs. Kansas City: Sit

Courtland Sutton has struggled all year to provide his fantasy managers with consistent solid output. Sutton is not alone in his struggles on the Broncos’ lowest-scoring offense. To make things worse for Sutton, he injured his hamstring in the Broncos' latest letdown against the Ravens on Sunday. Hamstring injuries are dangerous because he may try to play through it and not be 100%, and they are easy to reinjure. Do not lose your chance at the championship because you are counting on anyone playing for Denver’s sad excuse for an offense.

49ers TE George Kittle vs. Tampa Bay: Sit

George Kittle was held to under 30 yards for the second consecutive week and the third time in four weeks. Kittle’sstruggles have been due to a lack of targets in a run-first offense. San Francisco will be preparing their seventh-round pick out of Iowa State, QB Brock Purdy, to make his first career start against a tough Bucs defense. It’s possible Kittle turns into the rookie’s security blanket, but I wouldn’t risk it at this point in your season. I expect a low-scoring game between the 49ers and the Bucs, meaning the TD-or-bust TE won’t have many opportunities to score.

Players Trending Up

Ravens QB Tyler Huntley @ Pittsburgh: Start

Tyler Huntley stepped in for Jackson for the final three-quarters of Sunday’s 10-9 win over the Broncos. The Ravens’ backup QB completed 27 of 32 passes for 187 yards with no touchdowns and one interception while rushing 10 times for 41 yards and a touchdown. Huntley is a great streaming option against a Steelers defense that is ranked 10th easiest against opposing QBs this season. Huntley provides huge upside with his legs in a game the Ravens need to win to stay atop their division.

Bills RB James Cook vs. New York Jets: Start

The imminent changing of the guard in the Buffalo backfield took a prominent step forward in Week 13. Georgia rookie RB James Cook handled a team-high 14 carries for 64 yards and pulled in all six of his targets for another 41 yards versus the Patriots. The Bills were obviously not satisfied with Devin Singletarys impact when they went out and traded for the Colts’ former RB Nyheim Hines. Hinds has not impressed so far, but Cook has made the most of his opportunities of late. Cook is still available off waivers in a lot of leagues, and he should be added and possibly started this week. If he takes over as the unquestioned lead back for the highest-scoring offense in the league, then he could be a huge piece throughout the fantasy playoffs.

Cowboys WR Michael Gallup vs. Houston: Start

Michael Gallup has been a huge part of the Cowboys’ latest offensive explosion. He came up big in the red zone on Sunday, scoring his second and third touchdowns of the season from short distances. Gallup is averaging over six targets per game since the Cowboys' Week 9 bye. The Cowboys are the NFL’s hottest team, and I expect Gallup and other Dallas offensive players to continue to show out for fantasy purposes.

Chargers TE Gerald Everett vs. Miami: Start

Gerald Everett bounced back with a season high in receiving yards after a few weeks of lackluster performances. Everett looks like one of Justin Herbert's favorite targets with Mike Williams sidelined. Everett has nine catches over his last two games and is looking to keep up his momentum against Miami’s defense that has given up the third most fantasy points to TEs. I expect Evertt and the Chargers' offense to have a big day in a high-scoring game against the Dolphins.
