Terry was drafted by the Ducks at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, in the fifth round, 148th overall. He eventually left the Thunderbirds to play in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP). On November 15, 2021, Terry was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week after recording his first career overtime goal and his third career multi-goal and three-point performance. Following this, Terry became the youngest Duck in franchise history to record a point streak of at least 15 games. On January 3, 2022, in a 4–1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers, Terry recorded his first career NHL hat-trick. A few weeks later, he was voted into the NHL All-Star Game for the first time in his career. At the time of his selection, Terry had 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points in 38 contests played.
During the offseason, Terry agreed to a new 7-year contract extension with the Ducks worth $49 million with an average annual value (AAV) worth $7 million per season, that will keep Terry with the Ducks until the 2029-30 NHL season.
Terry is sometimes referred to as “Prime Time Terry”, a reference to his prime jersey number (#19) and his history of game-changing plays.
