Max Pacioretty was born November 20, 1988, in New Canaan, Connecticut, U.S. As a youth, Pacioretty played in the 2002 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Rangers minor ice hockey team.

Pacioretty was drafted in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens and played three seasons with them. He was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights before the 2018–19 NHL season and then dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2022. Pacioretty agreed to a one-year incentive based contract up to $4 million with the Washington Capitals on the opening day of free agency for the 2023–24 season on July 1, 2023.
