Erik Johnson was born March 21, 1988, in Bloomington, Minnesota. He is a defenseman in the NHL.

Johnson with the first overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, selected by the St. Louis Blues. On August 2, 2010, as a restricted free agent, Johnson re-signed with the Blues with a two-year, $5.2 million contract. Johnson was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 2011. On February 29, 2020, Johnson became the first defenseman from the 2006 draft to reach 300 points. He is the 37th US-born defenseman in NHL history to hit the 300-mark. At the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, Johnson left the Avalanche as a free agent following 13 seasons with the club and was signed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres on July 1, 2023.
