BIOGRAPHY
Zane Gonzalez was born on May 7th, 1995, in Deer Park, Texas. He is a kicker in the National Football League.
He studied at the University of Arizona and is a placekicker that has played in multiple teams throughout his NFL career such as the Cleveland Browns and currently the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. In his early years, Gonzalez attended Deer Park High School where he started playing football. As a junior, he connected on 16-for-18 field goals and again was 100-percent on extra points and was ranked as the No. 11 placekicker in the nation among high school kickers in 2013 by KohsKicking.com. He won the Kohl's National Scholarship Camp with 28 points on field goals. As a senior, Gonzalez was perfect on his kicks, including 10-for-10 on field goals and 100-percent on extra points where his long field goal was a 44-yarder and 44 of his 62 kickoffs went for touchbacks.
After finishing high school, Gonzalez committed to the University of Arizona to play college football. As a freshman, he played every game as the placekicker for the Devils and was a First Team All-Pac-12. He hit 25 of 30 field goals on the season and converted 63 of 63 extra-point attempts. He finished the season as No. 10 in scoring with 9.9 points per game and led the Pac-12 in kick scoring and No. 1 in Pac-12 field goals at 1.7 per game and 25 on the season. He was named one of the 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s best kicker and he broke the ASU record for points by a kicker with 138 on the season along with tying the NCAA record for field goals made by a freshman. As a sophomore, he was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza National Collegiate Place-Kicker Award for the second consecutive season and was a Second-Team All-Pac-12 member. Gonzalez finished fourth in the nation in field goals made per game and made 22 of 27 field goals on the year, 50-52 on extra points. He earned Pac-12 Player of the Week after he kicked his first game-winning field goal in overtime against Utah on November 1, marking the second time this season he has kicked four field goals in a game.
In his junior season in 2015, Gonzalez did not miss an extra point all season and his 26 field goals made were the second-most in the country. He also matched the Pac-12 record with an ASU school-record six field goals against California on November 28 while also adding four extra points, accounting for 22 of ASU’s 46 total points. As a senior, he tied for third overall in the regular season with 23 field goals made on 25 attempts and 7-of-9 of his field were of 50 yards or longer this season. He claimed four Lou Groza Star of the Week honors, the most by any kicker in the country and he made 13 field goals from 40+ yards, which was three more than any other player in the country and his 86.7 percent field goal percentage from 40+ is the highest in the country.
After graduating from college, Gonzalez entered the 2017 NFL Draft where he was selected in the seventh round by the Cleveland Browns. On May 16, 2017, the Browns signed Gonzalez to a four-year contract and was named their starting kicker to begin the season. On September 10, 2017, Gonzalez recorded his first career extra point and field goal against the Pittsburgh Steelers and on October 22, 2017, in Week 7, he scored all nine points on three field goals, including a career-long of 54 yards against the Tennessee Titans. Has waived by the Browns on September 17, 2018. On November 20, 2018, Gonzalez was signed to the Arizona Cardinals practice squad and was promoted to the active roster on November 26.
Gonzalez joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
