BIOGRAPHY
William Sweet was born on April 29, 1997, in Jacksonville, Florida. He studied at the University of North Carolina and is an offensive tackle for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. In his early years, Sweet attended First Coast High School where he was a four-star offensive tackle and ranked as the No. 127 overall player in the country, the No. 18 player in Florida, and the No. 12 offensive tackle by Scout.com. He was a member of the Scout 300 and was ranked as the No. 27 offensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com. Sweet was also a member of the Jacksonville Times-Union Super 75 and was rated as the No. 3 offensive tackle in Florida by the Times-Union. He helped lead First Coast to a combined record of 56-5 during his four seasons in high school and was a member of the National Honor Society.
After finishing high school, Sweet appeared in all 13 games and started his freshman season in 2016, with a win against Virginia. He graded out at 85 percent against NC State and had a season-high 11 knockdowns against UVA. He also graded out at a season-best 88 percent in the win over Georgia Tech and had eight knockdowns in the win against Miami. As a sophomore in 2017, he started the first three games of the season and had six knockdown blocks against both Cal and Louisville to open the season. He was also part of the winning team at the fourth annual Carolina Challenge Pitch Party, UNC’s business venture competition designed to promote entrepreneurship. In his junior season in 2018, Sweet started all 10 games appearing as a left tackle. He blocked for an offense that averaged 442.1 yards per game, including 193.0 rushing yards per contest and led an offensive line that allowed just 0.91 sacks per game. He earned the team’s Lineman of the Week honor three times, graded out at 80 or above in seven of the nine games that were graded, posting 71 knockdowns over the nine graded games.
After graduating from college, Sweet entered the 2019 NFL Draft and was signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. After the Cardinals, he played on the 49ers for a year and then he signed with the Cowboys in 2021.
