BIOGRAPHY
Ulysees Gilbert III was born on August 9th, 1997, in Ocala, Florida. He is a linebacker in the NFL.
During high school, Gilbert as a senior, had 128 tackles, 17 TFL, a sack, three interceptions, and a break-up, he recovered a fumble and scored a touchdown, also rushed for a 5-yard touchdown, as a junior, had 141 tackles, 15 TFL, seven sacks, and a forced fumble.
Gilbert played for the University of Akron football team from 2015 to 2018. In 2015 Gilbert played in all 13 games, also played on the kickoff, kickoff return, and punt return units, he had 11 tackles and a blocked kick on the season. In 2016 Gilbert started all 12 games at linebacker, one of only seven Zips to start every game, also saw action on the kickoff and punt return units. He was Zips’ defensive leader with 122 tackles, a team-best 11.5 TFL, 4.0 sacks, a team-best eight hurries, three break-ups, and two forced fumbles, and nationally ranked at No. 9 in total tackles (10.2) and No. 23 in solo tackles (5.4). In 2017 Gilbert started all 14 games at linebacker. He led the Zips with 141 tackles (58 more than the next Zip), 9.5 TFL, a team-best five sacks, five hurries, four breakups, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery, also scored two touchdowns for 123 points. He was ranked No. 15 nationally in total tackles (10.0). In 2018 Gilbert started all 12 games at linebacker. He tied the school record for most games played in his collegiate career (51), second on defense with 85 tackles, 7.5 TFL, two fumble recoveries, two touchdowns, and a break-up.
Gilbert was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round (207th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. On May 9, 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Gilbert to a four-year contract.
On October 11, 2022, Gilbert was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on January 10, 2023.
