BIOGRAPHY
Troymaine Pope was born on November 29th, 1993, in Anniston, Alabama. He is a running back for Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL.
During his high school career, Pope was named the Class 4A Back of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and finished third in the voting for Mr. Football as a senior. He helped the Bulldogs to the state semifinals as a senior after rushing for 2,539 yards and 31 touchdowns. Pope rushed for more than 1,900 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior to help the Bulldogs to a 10-3 record.
In 2012 during his freshman season, Pope played in seven games as a true freshman for the Gamecocks, starting one. He started his career with a bang, earning Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors in each of his first two games. He scored his first career touchdown on Oct. 20 with a two-yard run vs. Tennessee State. Pope finished the season third on the team with 240 yards on 44 carries.
During his sophomore season in 2013, Pope Played in 14 of the Gamecocks’ 15 games. He ran the ball 145 times and was third on the team with 633 yards while tying for second with eight rushing touchdowns. He broke the century mark in rushing yards one other time, with 102 yards on six carries against Southeast Missouri on Nov. 23. He caught ten passes for 138 yards, including a season-long 30-yard reception in the Aug. 31 season opener at Alabama State.
In 2014 during his junior season appeared in all 12 games for the Gamecocks and earned the starting nod against West Alabama on Sept. 20. He finished second on the team with 715 yards on 123 carries and found the end zone six times on the ground and also caught ten passes for 101 yards. He was one of the team’s primary kick returners, averaging 21.4 yards on 15 return attempts.
Pope signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. Troymaine Pope has played for multiple teams throughout his NFL journey and is currently playing for Los Angeles Chargers in the National Football League.
On November 28, 2018, Pope was signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. On January 19, 2019, Los Angeles signed Pope to a reserve/future contract for the 2019 season.
