BIOGRAPHY
Tony Bergstrom was born on August 8th, 1986 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He plays center for the Washington Redskins in the NFL.
In his early years, Bergstrom attended Skyline High School where he was a 2004 all-state and Region 3 Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player and he was a Skyline team captain. In 2002 and 2003 Skyline made the state finals while in 2004, Skyline won the region and made the state semi-finals. He was a high honor roll for three years, an academic all-state, a College Board AP Scholar Award and a National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame 2004 Scholar-Leader-Athlete nominee.
After he finished high school, Bergstrom committed to the University of Utah where as a freshman in 2008, he played in 10 games and started at left tackle against UNLV. He finished with three knockdowns, two cuts, and a pancake block and he also played on special teams. He had two knockdowns and two cuts against Weber State. He also had a pancake block against SDSU and was named Academic All-MWC and to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. As a sophomore in 2009, Bergstrom started all 13 games at right tackle. He led the offensive line in total plays with 816 during the regular season. He had 29 cuts and 12 pancake blocks and nine of the cuts were against San Diego State was the best by a Ute all season. As a junior in 2010, he was a Second-team all-MWC. Bergstrom started all 13 games at right tackle and led Utah with 584 plays in the 10 games that were graded. He did not allow a sack in the regular season, had an 83% overall grade with 485 wins, 14 cuts, and two pancake blocks and led the line with an 87% overall grade against SDSU, winning 61-of-70 plays. In his senior season in 2011, Bergstrom was a First-team all-Pac-12. He played in 12 games with 12 starts. He led Utah with an 85% overall grade, winning 546 of 639 assignments during the regular season and earned the highest grade on the offensive line in six games: Montana State with 88%, OSU with 91%, Pittsburgh with 85%, UCLA with 90%, WSU with 89% and Colorado with 92%. He also tied for the best grade in a game with 92% against Colorado, winning 55-of-60 plays.
After he graduated from college, Bergstrom entered the 2012 NFL Draft where he was selected in the third round by the Oakland Raiders. He played in nine games as a rookie, playing primarily on special teams. He made his NFL debut on special teams at ATL on October 14th and earned the first start of his career at right guard at San Diego on December 30th. After missing the 2013 season, Bergstrom spent the 2014 season on the team's active roster but was inactive for all 16 games. In 2015, Bergstrom recorded career highs in games played with 16 and starts with three, helping quarterback Derek Carr earn Pro Bowl honors. He made his first appearance on offense, recording 16 snaps at center, while also playing on special teams, at Pittsburgh on November 8th. He earned his second career start and the first of his career at center against Minnesota on November 15th and started at center as part of an offensive line that allowed Carr to throw for 330 yards and three touchdowns in a 24-21 win against Tennessee on November 29th. On March 9th, 2016, Bergstrom signed with the Houston Texans and on April 13th, 2017, he was released by the Texans. On May 3rd, 2017, Bergstrom signed with the Arizona Cardinals and on September 1st, 2017, the Cardinals traded Bergstrom to the Baltimore Ravens for a conditional 2018 seventh-round draft pick. He was released by the Ravens on October 19th, 2017, but was re-signed two days later. He was released again on October 23rd, 2017. On October 25th, 2017, Bergstrom signed with the Washington Redskins where he played in 13 games in 2017, starting three at center. On April 16th, 2018, Bergstrom re-signed with the team and played in 13 games in 2018, starting 8. On April 24th, 2019, Bergstrom re-signed with the Redskins.
