Tarell Basham was born on March 18, 1994, in Rocky Mount, Virginia. He is an outside linebacker for the New York Jets of the NFL.

He attended Franklin County High School where he had 82 tackles and 16 sacks in his career. After he graduated, he attended military school for a year, before committing to Ohio University.

He played college football at Ohio As a senior, he was awarded the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and recorded a school-record 11.5 sacks. During his career, Basham made 152 tackles and a school-record 29.5 sacks.

The Indianapolis Colts drafted Basham in the third round (80th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. On October 5, 2018, Basham was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets.
