BIOGRAPHY
Shaq Lawson was born on June 17, 1994, in Central, South Carolina. He is a defensive end in the National Football League.
Lawson played college football at Clemson. He attended D. W. Daniel High School, as a junior, he recorded 100 tackles and 13 sacks. During his senior year he recorded 99 tackles and nine sacks, he was rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com. He committed to Clemson University to play college football and after high school, attended Hargrave Military Academy for a year. Lawson played college football for the tigers at Clemson University; in 2013 as a freshman, he played in all 13 games and recorded had 35 tackles, four sacks, nine quarterback pressures, and one pass breakup. His four sacks tied William Perry and Ricky Sapp for most by a Tiger first-year freshman. In 2014 as a sophomore he played in all 13 games and had 44 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, five quarterback pressures, and one caused fumble. On his junior year in 2015, Lawson had 88 tackles, 25.5 for loss and 12.5 sacks to lead all Tigers in the latter two categories. He had at least one tackle for loss in 14 of the 15 games and was third on the team with 15 quarterback pressures. He posted 1.5 tackles for loss against Wofford.
The Buffalo Bills selected Lawson in the first round 19th overall of the 2016 NFL Draft. On June 6, 2016, the Buffalo Bills signed Lawson to a four-year contract; his first NFL sack came in week eight against the New England Patriots.
During the 2017 season he played in 11 games starting in 10, he recorded 33 tackles and four sacks. In the 2018 season he retained significant playing time as the Bills rotated their defensive personnel throughout games and started several games; he finished the season recording 30 combined tackles, four sacks, two fumbles forced, and six passes defended on the year.
In 2020 he signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins. In 2021 he was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Houston Texans.
On August 29, 2021, the New York Jets sent a 2022 sixth-round pick to the Texans in exchange for Lawson. Lawson joined the Buffalo Bills in 2023.
