BIOGRAPHY
Ryquell Keeman Armstead was born on October 30, 1996, in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He is a running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL.
In high school, he played running back for coach Jason Durham at Millville (N.J.) High. Armstead rushed for over 2,500 yards in his career including 1,488 yards and 18 TDs as a senior when his team went 5-3. He holds the school single-game record with 337 rushing yards, he lettered twice in football and three times in track. Armstead was a three-time all-conference selection in the track leading Millville to the county title in 2013-14.
During his freshman season on 2015, Armstead was part of the 2015 recruiting class, he debuted against Penn State, rushing four times for eight yards and making one catch for three yards, he set season highs in carries and yards at Charlotte, started and scored first two career touchdown versus Tulane, played in 12 games and finished behind only Jahad Thomas with 51 carries. Armstead was one of three freshmen to see significant action.
As a sophomore on 2016, he started opening day vs. Army in place of Jahad Thomas and rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown, Armstead rushed for a career-high 210 yards on 20 carries and scored two TDs against USF including a 76-yard score that tied for the 8th longest run from scrimmage by an Owl since 1971 and the 210 yards ranks 13th in the record books.
On 2017 as a junior, he had team-high in rushing yards against Notre Dame, UMass, Houston, UConn and Army, he scored his first TD of the season vs. UConn, rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns against Army, he moved into a tie for sixth all-time on Temple's leaderboard for career rushing touchdowns after picking up his 21st against FIU in the Gasparilla Bowl, finished the season second in rushing yards (604) and tied for first in rushing TDs (5).
As a senior on 2018, he entered the season as the starter at running back, Armstead became the third player in the FBS since 2000 to rush for 100 yards and record a sack in a game (Tulsa). He rushed for 100+ yards in four straight games (Buffalo, Maryland, Tulsa, Boston College), had career highs in carries (30), rushing yards (210) and TDs (6) at Houston, moving him up to third all-time in career rushing TDs and fourth all-time in career rushing yards for Temple, he eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards on the season vs. USF, becoming just the 11th Temple player to do so. Armstead was 10th in the nation in rushing TDs (13) and 11th in rushing yards per game (115.8).
Armstead was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Armstead signed a rookie contract with the Jaguars on May 9, 2019.
