Goodwin and his wife Morgan tragically lost their infant son after complications led to a premature delivery just hours before the 49ers played the New York Giants. Although overcome with grief, his wife encouraged Goodwin to play.
Fittingly, Goodwin turned in one of the most memorable and emotional plays of the season to help the 49ers beat New York for their first win of the season. He caught an 83-yard touchdown that was equal parts joy and sadness as he blew a kiss toward the sky on his way into the end zone. Goodwin took a knee while praying before collapsing to the ground with his head in his hands.
On May 23, 2022, Goodwin signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Goodwin joined the Cleveland Browns in 2023.
