BIOGRAPHY
Joshua Ryan Wells was born on February 14, 1991, in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He is an offensive tackle in the NFL. Wells attended Hanover high school and played college football at James Madison.
During high school, Wells was a four year starter at quarterback for Hanover, where he threw for more than 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns while running for more than 900 yards and five scores in his career, he earned First-Team All-Capital District his senior year after garnering Second Team accolades as a junior also was selected as Honorable Mention All-Central Region his final year after serving as team captain for two years Wells led his team to a Region title game his junior season.
Wells played football for James Madison from 2009 to 2013. In 2009 Wells retained the year of eligibility by redshirting during his true freshman season. In 2010 he played in all 11 games to earn his first letter, then Wells moved from tight end to the defensive line, he recovered a fumble at Richmond. In 2011 Wells started all 11 games on the season on the offensive line and led an offense that ranked fourth in rushing offense in the CAA at 209.0 yards per game and 4.6 yards per rush. He blocked for Dae’Quan Scott, who ranked third in the CAA in rushing at 86.8 yards per game and earned Second Team All-CAA honors, he was named JMU Athletics-Director Scholar-Athlete.
After the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Wells as an undrafted free agent. On February 17, 2017, Wells re-signed with the Jaguars, and he played in 15 games in 2017. On April 2, 2019, the Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed Wells to a one-year contract.
