BIOGRAPHY
Jonathan Jones was born on September 20th, 1993, in Carrollton, Georgia and he currently plays cornerback in the National Football League.
He attended Carrollton high school; rushed for 209 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries on offense while collecting 32 tackles, 3 INTs (returned one for a TD) and one forced fumble on defense; also returned 5 kickoffs for 105 yards and returned opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in the Georgia All-Star game. And was No. 40-rated cornerback nationally and 40th-rated player from the state of Georgia according to Rivals.com.
He played college football for Auburn University; in 2012 as a true freshman he made his first start at corner at Ole Miss in the nickel package, he recorded nine tackles in the season. In 2013 he played in 5 games and recorded five tackles.
In 2014 as a junior he was the starting cornerback, he ranks ninth nationally with six interceptions, fifth-most in a season at Auburn. He was second-team all-SEC, team-best 11 PBU and earned Zeke Smith Award as defensive player of the year.
As a senior in 2015, he was a Fourth-year starter at cornerback and recorded 129 career tackles, seven career interceptions. He was named first-team all-SEC (SEC coaches, SEC media, Athlon, Birmingham News, and CFB Matrix), second-team all-SEC (Phil Steele, Lindy’s) and was a Senior Bowl participant, making three tackles.
Jones signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2016; he saw his first game action in the Patriots season opener against the Arizona Cardinals and recorded a tackle. On February 5th, 2017, Jones was part of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl LI.
In 2017 he played in all 16 regular-season games with four starts in nickel defense and posted 36 tackles, one sack, one interception, and eight passes defensed. Also tallied eight special teams tackles.
During the 2018 season, he played all 16 regular-season games with five starts and tallied a career-high 50 tackles, 1½ sacks, tied for second on the team with three interceptions, defensed seven passes and forced one fumble; he also contributed on special teams with six tackles.
Appeared in all three postseason games with two starts and made ten tackles, notched his first career playoff sack and defensed one pass. He started as the nickel cornerback and finished with a team-high eight tackles while adding a sack for a 2-yard loss in the Super Bowl LIII victory vs. the Los Angeles Rams, and he was part of a defense that held the Rams to a Super Bowl record-tying low of three points.
The New England Patriots re-signed Jonathan Jones as a restricted free agent on April 16th, 2019.
