BIOGRAPHY
José Joaquín Arcega-Whiteside was born on December 31, 1996, in Zaragoza, Spain. He is a wide receiver the NFL.
He attended Paul M. Dorman High School in Roebuck, South Carolina. During his career, he had 207 receptions for 3,779 yards and 38 touchdowns. Arcega-Whiteside committed to Stanford University to play college football.
After redshirting his first year at Stanford in 2015, Arcega-Whiteside played in 12 games as a sophomore, he had 24 receptions for 379 yards (15.8 yards/catch), was team-high five receiving touchdowns, Arcega had first three career receptions, 29 receiving yards, eight-yard game-winning touchdown with 24 seconds left at UCLA, two catches for 24 yards, including 19-yard touchdown at Washington, team-high five catches for 68 yards and a one-yard touchdown reception vs. Washington State, one catch for five yards and a touchdown at Arizona, one catch for five yards vs. Oregon State, five catches, 106 receiving yards, 61-yard touchdown catch at Oregon, four catches for 107 yards at Cal and one catch for seven yards vs. Rice.
As a junior in 2017, he received All-Pac-12 honorable mention, registered team-high 48 receptions, team-high 781 receiving yards and team-high nine receiving touchdowns.
He was second among Pac-12 players, 25th nationally and ninth-most in a season in school history.
Arcega scored team-high 65.1 receiving yards/game, team-high four receptions and 67 yards, including three-yard touchdown catch at USC, team-high five catches and 62 receiving yards vs. UCLA, team-high four catches for 63 yards and scored one touchdown vs. Arizona State, registered team-high four catches for 63 yards and one touchdown vs. Arizona State and team-high six catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns vs. Oregon.
He also registered three catches for 30 yards, three-yard game-winning touchdown with 20 seconds left at Oregon State and three catches for 52 yards at Washington State, he scored team-high five catches and 130 receiving yards vs. Washington, team-high seven catches and 79 receiving yards vs. Cal, team-high four catches, registered 38 receiving yards and four-yard touchdown catch vs. Notre Dame, team-high five catches for 61 yards and three touchdowns vs. TCU (Alamo Bowl). Arcega had two catches for 87 yards vs. USC (Pac-12 Championship Game) and tied Stanford bowl game record with three touchdown receptions.
On 2018, as a senior, Arcega was a team captain, he earned All-Pac-12 second team, Biletnikoff Award semifinalist and Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 4). He played in 12 games and started 12, led team with 63 catches for 1,059 yards and 14 touchdowns, tied 41-year-old school record with 14 touchdown catches and had 14 touchdown receptions, led Pac-12 and ranked No. 3 in the nation.
He registered fifth-most receiving yards in a single-season in school history (1,059) and fourth-most 100-yard receiving games in a season in school history (5), he was fourth in the Pac-12 and 21st in the nation with 88.3 receiving yards per game, Arcega led the team in scoring with 86 points, sixth in the Pac-12 with 7.2/game, scored six catches, 226 receiving yards and three touchdowns (38, 19 and 80 yards) vs. San Diego State, he registered third-most receiving yards in a single-game in program history, had three catches for 36 yards and two touchdowns (9 and 8 yards) vs. UC Davis, had four catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns (13 and 15 yards) at Oregon, five catches for 30 yards, including a four-yard touchdown at Notre Dame, eight catches for 103 yards vs. Utah, registered seven catches for 91 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown at Arizona State, scored 10 catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns (18 and 25 yards) vs. Washington State, registered seven catches for 106 yards and three touchdowns (19, 23 and 2 yards) at UCLA, had five catches for 109 yards at Cal and three catches for 90 yards in win over Pitt (Sun Bowl).
Arcega-Whiteside was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round (57th overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft.
JJ Arcega-Whiteside signed a 4 year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on May 9 2019.
Arcega-Whiteside entered the 2021 season fifth on the Eagles wide receiver depth chart. He was placed on injured reserve on January 10, 2022. He finished the season with just two catches for 39 yards and no touchdowns through 16 games.
During the 2022 offseason, Arcega-Whiteside converted from wide receiver to tight end.
Following a tryout, the Atlanta Falcons signed Arcega-Whiteside on May 22, 2023.
