BIOGRAPHY
Jimmy Roger Moreland Jr. was born on August 26, 1995, in Belle Glade, Florida. He is a cornerback in the NFL.
Prior to his college career, Moreland attended Royal Palm Beach High School. During his freshman season in 2014, Moreland played in all 13 games, making 12 starts at cornerback. He finished 11th in voting for the Jerry Rice Award (FCS National Freshman of the Year) and was CAA Special Teams Player of the Week (Sept. 8). Moreland was Two-time CAA Rookie of the Week (Oct. 13, Nov. 24). He had 47 total tackles (29 solos) to go with 2.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, 12 pass breakups, and five blocks.
During his sophomore season in 2016, Moreland played in all 15 games, making six starts at cornerback. He had 37 total tackles (24 solos) to go with one fumble recovery, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups. In 2017 during his junior season, Moreland played in all 15 games, making 13 starts at cornerback. He had 68 total tackles (44 solos), to go with 2.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack, eight interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 14 pass breakups. Moreland ranked second nationally in interceptions, and fifth in passes defended per game (1.5). He ranked second in JMU single-season history for interceptions and ranked second in the CAA in interceptions and passes defended and seventh in interceptions return yards (67).
In 2018 during his senior season, Moreland started all 13 games. He was named HERO Sports Fan's Choice FCS Defensive Player of the Year and CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Moreland had 56 total tackles (28 solos), to go with 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, five interceptions, ten pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a blocked punt. He led the country in pick-sixes (3) and interception return yards (217) while also ranking tied for ninth in interceptions.
The Washington Redskins drafted Moreland in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Redskins placed him on injured reserve on December 17, 2019. For the 2020 season, Moreland switched jersey numbers from 32 to 20. In Week 1 against the Eagles, he recorded his first career interception.
