Jermaine Carter Jr. was born on January 14th, 1995, in Fort Washington, Maryland. He is a linebacker in the NFL.
At Friendship Collegiate Academy, Carter was a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com, averaging more than seven tackles per game during his senior campaign, totaling six forced fumbles to help lead Friendship Collegiate Academy to an 8-3 record and the DCSAA Championship. He served as a 2012 team captain and won Second-Team All-WCAC as a junior and honorable mention All-WCAC as a sophomore at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C.
As a freshman in 2013, he served a redshirt season and was named scout team defensive player of the week in consecutive weeks for his efforts in preparation for Connecticut (9/14) and West Virginia (9/21), and was also named scout team special teams player of the week for his work in preparation for Syracuse (11/9).
As a redshirt freshman in 2014, Carter appeared in all 13 games, totaling 27 tackles, led the team with two forced fumbles, had three tackles and forced a fumble in the season opener against James Madison (8/30), had a career-high six tackles against West Virginia (9/15), had four tackles at Syracuse (9/20) and three at Indiana (9/27), had three tackles at Wisconsin (10/25), forced a fumble to set up a Wes Brown touchdown at Penn State (11/1) and posted three tackles in the Foster Farms Bowl (12/30).
During his sophomore season in 2015, he started all seven games at middle linebacker, leading the team with 103 tackles. Carter ranked second on team with 14.0 tackles for loss - the most for a Maryland middle linebacker since All-American E.J. Henderson in 2002, ranked eighth in Big Ten in tackles/g (8.6), ranked fourth in Big Ten in solo tackles/g (5.5), had at least four tackles in every game in 2015, made first collegiate start against Richmond (9/5), totaling eight tackles and a TFL, had 13 tackles (9 solo) vs. Bowling Green (9/12), led team with 11 tackles vs. USF (9/19) and posted career-highs in tackles (14) and TFLs (3.0) at West Virginia (9/26).
Jermaine totaled eight tackles and a TFL against #22 Michigan (10/3), posted nine tackles at #1 Ohio State (10/10), including a TFL, had five tackles vs. Penn State (10/24), totaled four tackles at #10 Iowa (10/31), posted six tackles, including 1.5 TFL, and a PBU against Wisconsin (11/7), notched five tackles, including 1.0 TFL, at #14 Michigan State (11/14), posted 13 tackles (8 solo), including 2.5 TFLs, against Indiana (11/21) and scored seven tackles, including 2.0 tackles for loss, at Rutgers (11/28).
As a junior in 2016, Carter was the team captain and started all 13 games at MIKE linebacker, leading the team for the second straight season in tackles (110), ranked seventh in the Big Ten with 8.5 tackles/g, second on team with 6.0 sacks and third with 9.0 tackles for loss and also posted two forced fumbles, four pass breakups and an interception, totaling seven tackles, including 2.0 TFLs and a sack, vs. Boston College (12/26).
He had a monster game against Rutgers (11/26), posting a career-high 15 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, totaled eight tackles and a pair of pass breakups vs. #6 Ohio State (11/12), had seven tackles, including 0.5 TFL, at #2 Michigan (11/5), notched game-high 12 tackles at Indiana (10/29), scored six tackles against Michigan State (10/22), recorded 11 tackles against Minnesota (10/15), notched seven tackles at Penn State (10/8), had six tackles, including a sack, vs. Purdue (10/1), posted season-high 11 tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble, at UCF (9/17), recorded first career INT and returned it 14 yards for a TD, in addition to leading team with 8.0 tackles and notching first career sack at FIU (9/9), had three tackles, including a TFL vs. Howard (9/3).
As a senior in 2017, he was also the team captain and started all 12 games at middle linebacker, leading the team in tackles (90) and sacks (3.5), being named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. He tied for Big Ten lead with four forced fumbles, led all players with 11 tackles vs. #12 Penn State (11/25), notched a season-high 12 tackles and had a FF at #22 MSU (11/18), posted eight tackles vs. #21 Michigan (11/11), surpassing 300 career TKLs, had seven tackles at Rutgers (11/4), and notched 2.0 tackles for loss, including a sack, forced a fumble and had a PBU against Indiana (10/28).
