Ja'Whaun Louis Bentley was born on August 24, 1996, in Glenarden, Maryland, and currently plays linebacker in the NFL. 

During high school, Bentley was a First-team All-Washington Area Catholic Conference (WCAC) as a senior. Played in Offense-Defense 2014 All-American Bowl, He recorded ten sacks and one forced fumble as a freshman, 116 tackles and 6.0 sacks as a junior and 113 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and one interception returned for a TD as a senior.

Bentley played for the Purdue University football team from 2014 to 2016. In 2014 Bentley started all 12 games, finished the season with 76 tackles, 43 solo and 3.5 for loss, three fumble recoveries, one PBU, and one interception. In 2015 started the first five games of the season, despite not playing in the final seven games, finished fifth on the team with 49 total tackles (26 solos) with 7.5 tackles for loss and two PBUs. In 2016 Bentley appeared in nine games, making eight starts, he finished fifth on the team with 50 total tackles, including 37 solo stops.

The New England Patriots drafted Bentley in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. In the team's second preseason game, Bentley recovered a fumble forced by Adrian Clayborn and returned it 54 yards for the touchdown. On 2018 the New England Patriots signed Bentley to a four-year contract.
