Jamel Dean was born on October 15, 1996, in Cocoa, Florida. He is a cornerback in the National Football League.

Prior to his college career, Dean was a two-time Florida first-team Class 4A all-state pick at Cocoa (Fla.) High. He totaled 975 offensive yards, including 22 receptions and 15 touchdowns, in 2014 to earn all-state honors as a receiver and 38 tackles, two PBU, one interception in 2013. Dean also had seven PBUs as a senior and scored nine touchdowns as a junior.

During his sophomore season in 2017, Dean had 43 tackles and eight pass breakups. He was named to SEC Academic Honor Roll and Academic Top Tiger. In 2018 during his senior season, Dean was a starter at cornerback. He had 30 tackles, 11 PBU for the season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Dean in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Jamel Dean signed a four-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Overall, Dean finished the 2020 season with 62 total tackles, one interception, and seven passes defended in 14 games.

Dean played in all four games in the Buccaneers' playoff run that resulted in the team winning Super Bowl LV.

On March 15, 2023, Dean signed a four-year, $52 million contract extension with the Buccaneers.
