BIOGRAPHY
Jomal Wiltz was born on October 23, 1994, in Galena Park, Texas. He is a cornerback for the Miami Dolphins of the NFL.
At high school, Wiltz was named to the second-team all-district team in 21-5A, and was one of the top speedsters in Texas. He owns the fourth-best long jump and fourth-best 100-meter time in school history. In 2013, he was an all-state performer in the long jump and 100 meters, being placed third at the Class 5A state meet in the long jump (22-10.25) and eighth in the 100 meters (10.74).
Following high school, Wiltz continued his football career at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. In his two seasons, they finished 10-2 and was ranked fifth in 2013 and 12-0 and ranked second in 2014. His second season he finished the year with 79 tackles, three tackles for a loss, one interception, and 14 passes defended, earning first-team all SWJCFC honors.
After his two years at Trinity Valley, Wiltz chose to attend Iowa State after getting interest from California, Tulsa, and UNLV. He was ranked the eighth-best corner in junior college during that recruiting cycle by ESPN. On 2015, Wiltz played in all 12 games, starting seven, recording 41 tackles, including 28 solo stops, and was second on the team with eight pass breakups, averaged 22.6 yards per return on 12 kickoff returns, tallied a season-high six tackles, all solo stops, vs. Texas Tech, had five tackles each vs. Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and posted three tackles and two pass breakups vs. West Virginia.
During 2016, Jomal won an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 by the Coaches, earned the Al and Dean Knudson Award for the team’s best defensive player and was invited to the College Gridiron Showcase. He started 11 of 12 games played, recorded 49 tackles and 2.0 TFL and tied for the team lead with two interceptions and was second on the team with 11 passes defended, ranking seventh in the Big 12. Wiltz tallied a career-high eight tackles vs. UNI, posted six tackles, 1.5 tackles and first career interception vs. San Jose State, had seven tackles vs. Oklahoma, vs. Kansas, had six tackles and sealed the victory with an interception on the Jayhawks’ final drive, had two pass breakups, two tackles and 0.5 sack in the win over Texas Tech and ended career with 90 tackles, two interceptions, 2.0 TFL and 17 pass breakups.
Wiltz signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2017. He was waived on September 2, 2017, and was signed to the Eagles' practice squad the next day. Five days later he was signed to the New England Patriots' practice squad, and remain there until February 15, 2019, when Wiltz signed with the Miami Dolphins.
