BIOGRAPHY
Jacob Martin was born on December 11, 1995, in Aurora, Colorado. He is a defensive end in the NFL.
He played college football at Temple. Martin was a second team All-American Athletic Conference selection in 2017 and led the Owls in sacks with eight.
During Martin's Junior year at Temple he was awarded with a single-digit jersey (went from 91 to 9). Temple awards single digits to the toughest players on the team as voted on by the players. Martin earned a start and recorded half a sack in the opening game vs. Army. He recorded his first solo sack of the season at Memphis, registered two tackles and one sack vs. UCF and registered his first career pass breakup against UConn.
Martin's senior year would bring him more success. He was a mainstay on the defensive line. Martin made a strip sack of QB Quinton Flowers that he recovered and took it back 44-yards for a touchdown and recovered a fumble on a blocked punt at USF. HE had a career-best 2.0 sacks at ECU, recorded a career-high 7 tackles versus Army and reset career-high in multiple categories at Tulsa, including tackles (10), solo tackles (7) and TFLs (3.5) while matching his previous career-best in sacks (2.0). He finished the year leading the team in sacks (8.0), second in TFLs (11.0), first in fumble recoveries (2) and tied for second in forced fumbles (2).
Martin was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Asked about his playing style, Martin said, “I’m going to be honest, I don’t think anyone in this draft class plays this game the way I do. I bring a lot of energy to the team and to my play. Very urgent in everything I do, whether that’s special teams, whether that’s on defense, or that’s rushing the quarterback. I am a relentless dude. I’m from Temple, so you know you’re going to get the hardest working, the most physical, the most dedicated, the smartest players, some tough-ass dudes that get after the quarterback, they do their job well. You know that’s a stable at Temple… I play tough, physical, fast. I’m a smart player, relentless, in everything I do, and very competitive.”
He was traded to the Houston Texans in 2019.
On May 23, 2023, Martin signed with the Houston Texans. He was released on August 29, 2023.
