BIOGRAPHY
Jake Kumerow lettered in baseball and track as well as football at South Elgin High School in Bartlett, Illinois. His father, Eric, was a first-round draft pick (No. 16 overall) by Miami in the 1988 NFL Draft and played three seasons with the Dolphins. His uncle, John Bosa, played three seasons (1987-89) with the Dolphins. He is the cousin of Chargers DE Joey Bosa and Ohio State DE Nick Bosa.
After beginning his collegiate career at Illinois, Kumerow transferred to Whitewater in 2012 and recorded 15 receptions for 201 yards (13.4 avg.) and three TDs as a sophomore as he led the team in yards per catch. He caught two passes for 43 yards (21.5 avg.) in a 41-7 victory at UW-Stout. He ended the season with two receptions for 44 yards and a TD vs. UW-La Crosse.
As a junior in 2013, set single-season school records with 1,331 receiving yards and 19 TDs, numbers that also led the WIAC. He was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week following a victory vs. UW-Stout, where he notched season highs with 11 receptions for 226 yards (20.5 avg.) and three TDs. Kumerow tied his season high with three TD receptions vs. UW-Eau Claire. He helped the Warhawks overcome an 11-point deficit in the NCAA quarterfinals by catching thee TD passes – with two coming in the second half – against Linfield. Kumerow caught seven passes for 103 yards (14.7 avg.) and two TDs in the win over Mount Union in the national championship.
Kumerow finished with the second-most receiving yards (2,648) and third-most receptions (158) in school history. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in both of his final two seasons with the Warhawks. He wrapped up his Whitewater career with 66 receptions for 1,116 yards (16.9 avg.) and 14 TDs as a senior in 2014. Kumerow averaged a career-best 101.5 receiving yards per game in his final season. He began the season by nabbing three receiving TDs in a win at Franklin. Kumerow set a season high with 184 receiving yards on nine catches (20.4 avg.) and a TD in a shutout victory vs. The College of New Jersey. Kumerow was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week following a victory vs. Wisconsin-La Crosse (Oct. 4) after he hauled in a season-high 10 receptions for 143 yards (14.3 avg.) and tied a season high with three receiving TDs. In his final collegiate game, he caught eight passes for 130 yards (16.3 avg.) and a TD in the Warhawks’ victory over Mount Union in the NCAA Division III Championship Game.
Kumerow originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals on May 8, 2015. He hauled in four passes for 67 yards in the 2016 preseason with the Bengals before spending the first 15 weeks of the season on Cincinnati’s practice squad.
Kumerow spent the last week of the 2017 season on the Packers’ practice squad after being signed on Dec. 26.
On January 26, 2021, Kumerow signed a reserve/futures contract with the Buffalo Bills.
