BIOGRAPHY
Fletcher Cox was born on December 13th, 1990, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He is a defensive tackle in the National Football League.
Cox attended Yazoo City High School where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He was rated the No. 5 weakside defensive end in the country by national recruiting web site Rivals.com and considered the No. 2 prospect in the state of Mississippi by Rivals. Cox was chosen to play in the Mississippi-Alabama High School All-Star game following his senior season. He received interest from multiple SEC teams to play college football but signed with the University of Mississippi.
Cox played three seasons at Mississippi from 2009 to 2011. He registered 114 solo tackles,53 solo, 8.5 sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss in 36 games. Cox also blocked five field goal attempts. As a junior in 2011, Cox was named First-Team All-SEC and First Team All-American.
Fletcher Cox was selected in the first round by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Eagles traded up in the draft from the 15th pick to make the selection. Cox recorded a sack in first NFL game and tied for the most sacks on the team with 5.5 earning him PFWA All rookie Team honors. Cox has played all seven seasons with the Eagles and has logged 327 combined tackles, 234 solo tackles, and 44.5 sacks. His 44.5 career sacks are the most by an interior defensive lineman in Eagles history. Cox was nominated to four Pro Bowls the most by an Eagles defensive tackle and voted Second-Team All-Pro in 2014, 2015 and 2017. In the 2017 season, Cox helped lead the Eagles stout defense to a Super Bowl 52 victory against the New England Patriots on February 4th, 2018. Cox earned First-Team All-Pro honors from the Associated Press for the first time in his career after producing a career-high 10.5 sacks in 2018.
