BIOGRAPHY
Dwayne Washington was born April 24, 1994, in Lakewood, California. He is a running back in the NFL. He played college football at Washington. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Washington played for the University of Washington from 2012 to 2015. Washington redshirted in his first year with the program. In the 2013 season, he had 47 rushing attempts for 332 yards and four touchdowns. In addition, he one five-yard touchdown reception. In the 2014 season, he had 132 rushing attempts for 697 yards and nine touchdowns. In addition, he had 15 receptions for 91 yards. He played in nine games for the Washington Huskies during the 2015 season, rushing for 282 yards on 47 carries and catching 25 passes for another 315 yards and three touchdowns.
Washington was drafted in the seventh round with the 236th overall pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2016 NFL Draft. Overall, in his rookie season, he finished with 265 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. On September 2, 2018, Washington was signed to the New Orleans Saints' practice squad. Elevated to the active roster during Week four, he provided a boost on special teams recording two special team stops and recovering a blocked punt and when called upon rushed for 154 yards on 27 carries (5.7 avg.).
Washington is hoping the 108 yards he gained in the Saints' regular-season finale against the Carolina Panthers is a springboard of what's to come next season. He likes what he put on film that day in December, in a game the Saints rested Kamara for the entire game and sat Ingram for the second half. Washington carried the ball 11 times and averaged 9.82 yards per carry, showing a combination of speed and power. His day included runs of 28, 26 and 16 yards.
Washington also played on special teams and was in on one that unit's biggest plays of the season. He recovered a blocked punt by teammate Taysom Hill against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a play that flipped the momentum of the game the Saints won to clinch the NFC South title for a second straight year. He was also credited with three tackles on special teams.
