BIOGRAPHY
Drew Sample was born on April 16, 1996, in Bellevue, Washington. He is a tight end in the NFL.
In Highschool, he earned first-team KingCo 4A honors as a junior and senior from his tight end position with a total of 21 catches for 496 yards and 11 touchdowns in a three-year career. He was a team captain on as a senior for a squad that went 8-3 and advanced to the first round of the playoffs. Sample scored five touchdowns despite catching just eight passes for 265 yards. He caught 12 passes for 218 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. Sample was rated the No. 4 overall prospect in Washington by ESPN, which also tabbed him the nation's No. 16 tight end and was ranked the No. 8 recruit in the state and the No. 31 tight end in the country by the scout.
He played college football at Washington. In 2014 he was redshirted true freshman season at Washington.
In 2015 Sample played in every game, starting seven. He saw his first college action in the season opener at Boise State. He started at one tight end spot in the victory over Sacramento State and also started in the win over Utah State when he caught his first career pass, a three-yard touchdown. Sample earned the Earle T. Glant Tough Husky Award at the team's postseason awards ceremony.
In 2016 Sample played in all 14 games, starting 11 of them. He made one catch for five yards in a start vs. Rutgers. He had an eight-yard catch in the Pac-12 Championship game vs. Colorado and also caught an eight-yard reception vs. Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. In 2017 Sample played in 10 games, starting eight of them. He won the Don James Perseverance Award at the UW postseason awards banquet. In 2018 he started all 14 games. He had two receptions for 36 yards in a start against Auburn in the season opener. Sample won the Iron Husky Award at the UW postseason awards banquet.
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Sample in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
