BIOGRAPHY
Devonta Freeman was born on March 15, 1992, in Baxley, Georgia. He is a running back in the NFL.
He attended Miami Central high school, where he was a consensus four-star recruit. He led Miami Central to a Class 6A state championship as a senior in 2010 after posting 2,208 yards and 26 touchdowns.
He played college football for the Seminoles at Florida State University; he Earned third-team Freshman All-America honors from the NFL Draft Report after leading the Seminoles with 579 yards on 120 carries, the fifth-highest yardage total by a true freshman in school history. Averaged 4.8 yards per carry and scored eight touchdowns while starting seven games.
As a sophomore in 2012, he ranked second on the team with 660 yards on 111 carries, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, and scoring eight touchdowns. In 2013, he earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team honors from the league’s coaches and media after leading the team in rushing for the second time in his career. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry and ran for 14 touchdowns while his 1,016 yards were the seventh-highest single-season total in school history. He rushed 11 times for 73 yards, including a late second-quarter touchdown in Florida State’s 34-31 victory over Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game.
On January 11, 2014, Freeman announced he would forego his senior season and enter the 2014 NFL Draft. The Atlanta Falcons drafted Freeman in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft; he played in all 16 games and had 248 yards off of 65 carries and one touchdown as a rookie in 2014. He also had 30 catches for 225 yards and one touchdown.
Freeman became the first player since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to rush for three touchdowns in each of his first two starts. He was the first player in the Super Bowl era to record seven rushing touchdowns in his first three starts. He became the first Falcon RB since Michael Turner (2009) to record three straight 100-yard games (Weeks 5-7) in 2015.
He earned his first Pro Bowl selection after rushing for 1,056 yards with 11 touchdowns while adding 578 yards on 73 catches and three scores. Ranked fifth in the NFL with 1,634 total yards and tied for the League lead with 14 overall touchdowns.
He became the first Falcons running back since Michael Turner (2010-11) to post back-to-back seasons with 1,000 scrimmage yards (2015-16). He is the only player in the NFL to rush for three touchdowns in a game multiple times (3) over the last two seasons. Became the sixth Falcon and first since Michael Turner (2010-11) to rush for more than 1,000 yards in back to back seasons (2015-16).
He paced the Falcons to a 45-32 win on Monday Night Football with 207 total yards on 19 touches, including a 13-yard touchdown reception from QB Matt Ryan, at New Orleans (9/26). Ran for 152 yards on 14 carries (10.9 yards per carry) while adding 55 yards on five receptions.
He recorded 125 total yards on 18 touches in his playoff debut against Seattle in the Divisional Round. He scored his first playoff touchdown on a one-yard run. He totaled 121 yards from scrimmage, including a game-high 75 yards on the ground, in Super Bowl LI against New England.
Freeman earned his second career Pro Bowl selection in 2016 and ran for 1,079 yards on 227 carries while scoring 11 rushing touchdowns. He also added 54 catches for 462 yards and two scores. He had totaled 100+ scrimmage yards in seven games.
Logged 73 yards on 28 carries with one touchdown while adding five catches for 26 yards and one score in the postseason. Freeman recorded the eighth multi-touchdown game of his career, rushing for two scores, in a Week 2 win over Green Bay. He has six career games with two-plus rushing touchdowns.
Freeman rushed for 865 yards on 196 carries with seven touchdowns while adding 36 catches for 317 yards in 2017. In 2018 he was Active for two games, recording 14 carries for 68 yards while adding five catches for 23 yards.
He now plays with the Buffalo Bills. On September 9, 2021, the Baltimore Ravens have signed Freeman on their practice squad following injuries to J.K. Dobbins, Justice Hill, and Gus Edwards. On September 16, 2021, the Ravens signed Freeman to their active roster.
