BIOGRAPHY
Derwin Devon Gray was born on May 10th, 1995, in Washington, D.C. He is an offensive lineman in the NFL. Gray attended Friendship Collegiate High School and played college football at the University of Maryland.
During high school, Gray helped lead Friendship Collegiate to the 2012 DCSAA Championship as a senior, he played in the Under Armor All-American Game, also played on the South Team at the Chesapeake Bowl. He was ranked the number two player in Washington, D.C. by Rivals and the number one recruit the Nation’s Capital by ESPN.
Gray played for the University of Akron football team from 2015 to 2018. In 2015 Gray played in two games, making collegiate debut against Michigan (10/3). In 2016 Gray appeared in all 13 games, making three starts at left tackle, he helped pave the way for a Maryland rushing offense that eclipsed 2,500 yards for the first time since 2003. In 2017 Gray started all 12 games at left tackle, he earned the team's James M. Tatum Memorial Award as the team's best lineman. Gray had the fourth-best pass-blocking efficiency according to Pro Football Focus and helped the Maryland running game eclipse 160 yards/g for the third consecutive season. In 2018 as a senior Gray started 10 of 12 games at left tackle, he helped block for the 17th best rushing offense in the country and third-best in the Big Ten, averaging 230.2 yards per game, and blocked for a team that tallied six games with over 200 rushing yards.
Gray was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round, 219th overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft. On September 1, 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Gray to a one-year contract.
