BIOGRAPHY
Derek Carr was born on March 28th, 1991 in Bakersfield, California. He is a quarterback in the in the National Football League.
Carr was born in Bakersfield but moved to Sugar Land, Texas when the Houston Texans drafted his older brother David Carr in 2002. Derek played three years of high school football at Clements High School where he passed for 1,246 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore, and 1,622 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. Carr led his team to a 13-0 record and a trip to quarterfinals of the 2007 Class 5A Division 2 State playoffs before coming up short to the eventual winners. Carr returned to Bakersfield for his senior year and played for Bakersfield Christian High School. Carr helped propel his team to a 12–1 record and the California Interscholastic Federation Central Section Division V Championship. Carr verbally committed to Fresno State on May 25th, 2008, at the end of his junior year making him the program's first recruit of the 2009 class.
Carr played four seasons at Fresno State from 2009 to 2012. He was a redshirt freshman in 2010 but had a breakout season in 2011 throwing for more than 3500 yards and 26 touchdowns. In total Carr threw for 12843 yards and 113 touchdowns in only three starting seasons. He won the MWC Offensive Player of the Year for the 2012 season and led the FBS with 5,083 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2013. He won the Sammy Baugh Trophy, which is awarded annually by the Touchdown Club of Columbus to the nation's top collegiate passer. Carr's number was retired by Fresno State in 2017. On July 14th, 2019, Carr received a mural at his former college, Fresno State University.
Derek Carr was selected in the second round by the Oakland Raiders with the 36th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Since entering the league in 2014, Carr has completed more than 1,700 passes for 18739 yards and 122 touchdowns. In 2017, Carr signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension with $40 million fully guaranteed, $70 million in total guarantees and a $12.5 million signing bonus. Carr has been impressive in each season he has played and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection. In 2018, Carr completed 381 passes for more than 4,000 yards and 19 touchdowns, finishing with a career-high in passing yards.
In April of 2022, he signed a three-year extension with the Raiders.
On March 6, 2023, Carr signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints in free agency.
