BIOGRAPHY
David Long Jr. was born on October 12th, 1996, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He plays linebacker in the National Football League.
In his early years, Long Jr. attended Winton Woods High school where as a sophomore, he registered 81 tackles, a sack, two fumble recoveries, and an interception. As a junior, he totaled 88 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery while in his senior year, he tallied 110 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and three sacks. Long Jr. finished his high school career with 283 career tackles, six sacks, and six interceptions and was selected Associated Press All-Ohio Division II honorable mention and Associated Press Southwest All-District First Team Division II linebacker.
After he finished high school, Long Jr. committed to the University of West Virginia where as a redshirted freshman in 2016, he played in 13 games with 10 starts and notched 65 tackles, two sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. On October 1st against Kansas State, Long Jr. made his first career start and had a tackle for a loss of six yards to go along with three solo tackles. As a sophomore in 2017, started nine games at Will linebacker. He was the team’s third-leading tackler with 76 stops, including four sacks, a team-best 16.5 tackles for loss, four passes defended and a fumble recovery. He was selected All-Big 12 Conference first team by ESPN, All-Big 12 Conference second team by Athlon Sports and All-Big 12 Conference honorable mention by the Coaches and was also named WVU Defensive Player of the Year. In his junior year in 2018, Long Jr. started all 12 games at Will linebacker and was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches and the Associated Press. He also garnered second-team All-America honors by the Associated Press and first-team All-Big 12 first-team accolades by the Associated Press. He led the team with 111 tackles, eight sacks and 19 tackles for loss.
After his junior season, Long Jr. decided to forego his senior season and enter the 2019 NFL Draft where he was selected in the sixth round by the Tennessee Titans.
Long signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins in 2023.
