BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Ray Kilgore was born on December 18, 1987, in Kingsport, Tennessee. He is a center in the NFL.
He attended Dobyns-Bennett High School where he played for head coach Graham Clark; he was a three-year starter at center. He helped lead the Indians to a 9-1 mark in 2005 and earned first-team 4A all-state honoree.
He played college football for the Mountaineers at Appalachian State University; in 2006 he redshirted in his first season with them and excelled in the classroom as a member of ASU athletics’ academic honor roll.
On the 2017 season, he appeared in nine games and started two at right guard; he saw significant playing time as a blocking tight end and graded at 70 percent or higher in all seven graded performances.
In 2018 he started in all 14 games as a right guard and was part of an offensive line that was the first at ASU since 1989 to sport the same starting five each week for an entire season; also graded out at 80 percent or better in 6-of-13 graded performances.
In 2019 he was he assumed a “utility player” role on the offensive line, usually rotating into the game on an every-other-series basis; he mainly covered the right-tackle position when in the game. He averaged 36 snaps per game and graded out at 75 percent or higher in 10-of-11 graded performances; received five grades of 80 percent or higher, good for second on the team behind all-American Mario Acitelli (eight).
The 49ers drafted Kilgore in the fifth round, 163rd overall, in the 2011 NFL Draft; saw action in one game. In 2012 he played all 16 games and did not allow any sacks; at the end of the 2012 season, Kilgore and the 49ers appeared in Super Bowl XLVII.
In 2013 he played all 16 games and did not allow any sacks. On February 27, 2014, the 49ers signed Kilgore to a contract extension; he started in 7 games at center and only allowed one sack. In the 2015 season, he played in 5 games with three starts at center.
In 2016 started in 13 games and allowed 1.5 sacks. In 2017 Kilgore started all 16 games at the center; help the team win five consecutive games and 6 of their last seven contests to finish the season. On February 14, 2018, the 49ers signed Kilgore to a three-year contract extension.
On March 15, 2018, the 49ers traded Kilgore to the Miami Dolphins; he started four games within the 2018 season with the Dolphins.
