BIOGRAPHY
Chris Banjo was born on February 26th, 1990 in Houston Texas. He is a safety for the Arizona cardinals in the NFL.
Banjo attended Southern Methodist University, where he played on the SMU Mustangs football team from 2008 to 2011. Banjo chose SMU over UTEP, Boise State, Hawaii, Air Force and Navy. He ranked as the nation's No. 95 safety by ESPN.com and was named to the Houston Chronicle's Houston Top 110. As a freshman, Banjo saw time in all 12 games, starting the last seven at safety. He ranked fourth on the team with 61 tackles. Banjo Intercepted a pass against Southern Miss and returned it 33 yards. Banjo had 13 tackles at Navy and backed up that performance with a 12-stop day against Memphis.
As a sophomore, Banjo started all 13 games at safety. He had 86 tackles and an interception on the year. He also forced three fumbles. Banjo had a 10-tackle games against SFA, East Carolina and Rice and nine stop games at TCU and Houston. He became the first SMU player awarded the number 23 following Head Coach June Jones' decision that a deserving student-athlete on the SMU football team would be chosen to wear the number 23 on his jersey throughout the season to honor Jerry LeVias. As a junior, Banjo started all 14 games at safety. He was named Second Team All-Conference USA, tallied 92 total tackles with 6.5 for loss. He had two interceptions and six pass breakups on the season. Banjo totaled 12 tackles and a TFL against UCF in the C-USA Championship. He twice recorded nine tackles (TCU and Army) in a game.
Banjo signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 18, 2013.
On November 15, 2016, Banjo was signed by the Saints.
On March 9, 2019, Banjo signed a three-year contract extension with the Saints.
On September 25, 2019, Banjo was signed by the Arizona Cardinals. On April 2, 2020, Banjo was re-signed by the Cardinals. He was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team on December 31, 2020, and activated on January 5, 2021.
