BIOGRAPHY
Casey Austin Keenum was born on February 17th, 1988, in Brownwood, Texas. He is a quarterback in the National Football League.
He attended Wylie High School in Abilene, Texas, where he passed for 6,783 yards and 48 touchdowns in addition to rushing for more than 2,000 yards with 41 touchdowns. He finished with a 31-11 record at Wylie and led his school to the Class 3A Division State Championship as a junior in 2004.
He played collegiately at the University of Houston playing in 57 games over five seasons. He departed Houston as the NCAA’s all-time leader in pass completions (1,546), passing yards (19,217) and passing touchdowns (155). Keenum was named the Conference USA MVP and Offensive Player of the Year following the 2009 and 2011 seasons and earned the 2009 and 2011 Sammy Baugh Trophy, awarded annually to the nation’s top college passer. He broke the NCAA Division I career passing touchdowns record during the 2011 season when he threw for a personal-best nine touchdowns against Rice (10/27).
He spent the 2012 season at the practice squad for the Houston Texans. On 2013, he opened eight games as starter, threw for a season high 350 yards against Indianapolis [11/3] and threw for six touchdowns in a two game span [11/3-11/10]. By 2014 Keenum started two games for Houston throwing for 435 yards completing 45 of 77 passing attempts (58.4%) leading Texans to 2-0 record.
In 2015, during his first season with the Rams, Keenum started five of the six games he appeared in leading the Rams to a 3-2 record. Completed 76 of 125 passes for 828 yards and four touchdowns. At 2016 he opened nine of 10 games played, recording 196 completions on 322 passing attempts with nine touchdowns, passed for a season high 321 yards with three touchdowns against Detroit [10/16] and threw for 860 yards and four touchdowns during a four game win streak [10/2-11/13]. On March 31, 2017, Keenum signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings. He started in 15 games completing 325-of-481 passes (67.6%) for 3,547 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions accumulating a 98.3 rating. He helped the Vikings to their first NFC Championship Game appearance in eight years, throwing for 589 yards during Minnesota’s two postseason contests which led Minnesota to a 12-4 overall record and an NFC North Division title.
On March 14, 2018, the Denver Broncos signed Keenum to a two-year, $36 million contract. He started in all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career and completed 365 of 586 passes (62.3%) for 3,890 yards with 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in addition to rushing for two touchdowns. He threw for a season high three touchdowns in a season opening victory against Seattle [9/9], threw for season high 19 first downs against New York Jets [10/7] and had his streak of 165 passing attempts without an interception snapped against Cleveland [12/15]. Keenum joined the Redskins via trade on March 7, 2019. He enters Washington having played in 57 games between Houston, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Minnesota and Denver from 2013-2018.
On March 13, 2022, Keenum signed a two year contract with the Houston Texans.
