BIOGRAPHY
Andrew Van Ginkel was born on July 1st, 1995, in Rock Valley, Iowa, and currently plays linebacker in the NFL. Van Ginkel attended Rock Valley High School and played college football at the University of Wisconsin.
During high school, Van Ginkel recorded 95 tackles, including 14.5 for loss, as a senior, also played quarterback as a senior, throwing for 1,466 yards and 17 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,413 yards and 15 TDs.
Van Ginkel played for the University of Wisconsin football team from 2017 to 2018. Van Ginkel attended South Dakota. In 2014, Van Ginkel was a two-time defensive scout team player of the week. In 2015, He started all 11 games at defensive end. He finished third in voting for STATS FCS National Freshman of the Year, highest among defensive players. At Iowa Western, Van Ginkel played in 11 games, he logged 50 tackles, including 13.0 TFLs and 3.5 sacks, also recorded an interception and a fumble recovery.
In 2017, he transferred to the University of Wisconsin. As a junior, he earned the first letter, playing in all 14 games. He logged 39 tackles, 10.0 TFLs, and 6.5 sacks, recorded 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups. He contributed to the unit that ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense (262.1 yards per game), No. 3 in scoring defense (13.9 points per game), No. 3 in rushing defense (98.4 ypg) and No. 1 in pass efficiency defense (96.4). As a senior, Van Ginkel earned the second letter, playing in all 13 games with 10 starts at outside linebacker. He recorded team-high 5.5 sacks despite being limited by an ankle injury for a portion of the season. He had 60 total tackles, including 9.5 TFLs, forced 2 fumbles and recorded 3 pass breakups.
Van Ginkel was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round, 151st overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft.
