Allen Hurns was born on November 12th, 1991, in Miami, Florida. He is a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL.
Hurns studied at the University of Miami and is a wide receiver that has played in multiple teams throughout his NFL career such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Dallas Cowboys and currently the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. In his early years, Hurns attended Miami Carol City Senior High School in Miami, Florida, where he played football as a wide receiver and ran track. He finished his junior year with 23 receptions for 450 yards and seven touchdowns while as a senior, he had six catches for 110 yards.
After he finished high school, Hurns committed to the University of Miami to play college football. As a freshman in 2010, he played in nine games during his first year at Miami and spent most of the time on special teams, recording four tackles where three of them were solo. He also played some snaps at wide receiver but did not record catch. As a sophomore in 2011, he played in all 12 games of the season, recording seven starts, finishing third on the team in catches with 31 and yards with 415. He had four catches for 69 yards in the season opener against Maryland and scored his first two touchdowns of his career in six-catches for 54-yard performance against Ohio State. Hurns finished the season with four touchdowns and recorded a season-long 41-yard catch against Virginia Tech and he led the team with five catches against Florida State. As a junior in 2012, he played in 11 games at receiver, making eight starts, finishing fourth on the team with 28 receptions and sixth with 314 receiving yards. He tied for the team lead with 4 receiving TDs and caught career-high 8 passes for 81 yards in the season-opening win against Boston College and had two catches for 32 yards against Kansas State.
In his senior season in 2013, Hurns played in all 13 games at receiver, making 11 starts and led all Miami receivers in receptions with 62 and receiving yards with 1,162 and was second on the team with six TD receptions. He set a single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards, breaking the mark previously held by Leonard Hankerson and concluded his college career ranked seventh in school history with 121 receptions and 1,891 yards.
After he graduated from college, Hurns entered the 2014 NFL Draft where he was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent. On May 11, 2014, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Hurns to a three-year contract and on September 7, he made his NFL debut against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he caught four passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns from quarterback Chad Henne, making him the second wide receiver in NFL history to record touchdowns on his first two catches and the first rookie to ever score two receiving touchdowns in the first quarter of his first game. He finished his rookie season with 51 receptions for 677 yards and six touchdowns.
In the 2015 season, Hurns finished with 64 receptions, 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns, which all remain his current career highs, holding the record for most touchdowns in first two seasons for an undrafted free agent in NFL history with 16, and he was the only wide receiver to score a touchdown in seven straight games, all while playing with a sports hernia. He was ranked 89th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016. On June 2, 2016, Hurns signed a four-year contract extension and started in every game up until Week 13. On October 2, he caught his first touchdown of the season against the Indianapolis Colts. On October 27, Hurns caught seven passes for a season-high 98 yards and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans and in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills, he caught his third touchdown of the season. Hurns ended the 2016 season with 35 receptions for 477 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2017, Hurns recorded six receptions for 82 yards and his first touchdown of the season against the Tennessee Titans, after entering the game in substitution for Allen Robinson. On October 22, Hurns caught five passes against the Indianapolis Colts and topped 100 yards for the first time since December 2015 and on his 26th birthday, Hurns caught a season-high seven passes for 70 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers. Hurns one pass in the Divisional Round win against the Pittsburgh Steelers and against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship, he caught six passes for 80 yards, which were the most receiving yards by a Jaguar in the playoffs since Matt Jones in 2006. Hurns finished the season with 46 catches for 576 yards and two touchdowns.
On March 20, 2018, Hurns was released by the Jaguars and on March 23, 2018, he was signed to a two-year contract by the Dallas Cowboys and he changed his jersey number to 17 to honor the Parkland shooting victims. He made his Cowboys debut in the season-opening against the Carolina Panthers where he caught one reception for 20 yards and on October 7, Hurns scored his first touchdown of the season on a 3-yard pass from Dak Prescott against the Houston Texans. He finished the regular season with 20 receptions for 295 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was released by the Cowboys on July 23, 2019, and on July 26, 2019, Hurns signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins.
