BIOGRAPHY
JJ Redick was born on June 24th, 1984 in Cookeville, Tennessee. He is a shooting guard in the NBA.
Redick began his career playing prep basketball at Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Virginia. At Cave Spring, Redick was a three-time Gatorade Virginia Player. Redick was also honored as the 2002 Virginia Mr. Basketball. Redick was named a McDonald's All-American and even won the MVP of the game. As a senior, he averaged 28.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He would finish his prep career as Virginia's all-time AAA leading scorer with 2,215 career points. Redick committed to the University of Duke for his collegiate career.
At Duke, Redick had a historic career which eventually led to his #4 jersey being retired by the school. In the 2004-05 season, Redick would be named to the ACC Player of the Year and National Player of the Year. He would finish his career as the ACC and Duke all-time leading scorers as well as the all time leading scorer in the ACC tournament. Redick would make an ACC record 54 consecutive free throws. Redick finished his career at Duke with 2,769 points, NCAA record 457 three-point field goals.
With the 11th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic selected Redick. In 5 seasons in Orlando, Redick averaged 7.7 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. On February 21, 2013, Redick was traded from the Magic to the Milwaukee Bucks along with guard Ish Smith and forward Gustavo Ayon for guard Beno Udrih, guard Doron Lamb, and forward Tobias Harris. After a short stint with the Bucks, Redick would be acquired by the Los Angeles Clippers. As a Clipper, Redick would start 218 of the possible 219 games played. In the 2016 season, Redick would make a career high 201 three pointers made in a single season. On July 8th, 2017, Redick would sign with Philadelphia 76ers. In the 2019 season, Redick would break the franchise record for the most threes made in a season with 240.
On July 15, 2019, Redick signed with the New Orleans Pelicans. Redick was traded to the Dallas Mavericks on March 26, 2021.
In addition to his basketball career, Redick is a podcaster, and hosts a basketball and entertainment podcast entitled "The Old Man and the Three" as a part of his new podcast company Three Four Two Productions.
