BIOGRAPHY
Vito Nova Wormgoor was born on November 16, 1988in Leersum, Netherlands. He is a center back in Major League Soccer.
Wormgoor is a product of the AFC Ajax Academy and regularly trained with Ajax’s First Team, where he tested himself against the likes of Luis Suarez.
Wormgoor began his professional career in the Netherlands with FC Utrecht, where he made nine appearances (all starts).
From 2009- 2012, Wormgoor played for De Graafschap Doetinchem. He made 93 appearances (92 starts), while registering three goals and three assists. Notably, Wormgoor helped De Graafschap Doetinchem win the Eerste Divisie – the Netherlands’ Second Division – in 2010.
From 2010-2016, he played for ADO Den Haag. Wormgoor made 114 appearances (111 starts) while tallying four goals and two assists.
Wormgoor spent the second half of the 2016 season with Aalesund of Norway’s topflight, where he made 11 appearances (10 starts).
Wormgoor played for SK Brann of Norway’s First Division from 2017-2019. During his three seasons with Brann, the defender served as the team’s captain, making 86 appearances (all starts), scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in the Eliteserien. Wormgoor also made two appearances (all starts) and provided one assist in a 2017-2018 Europa League Qualifiers series against Slovakian side Ruzomberok.
Wormgoor was signed by Crew SC as a free agent on December 18, 2019 and made two regular-season appearances (two starts at center-back) for Crew SC in 2020. The defender made his Crew and MLS regular-season debut as a starter on Opening Match against New York City FC (March 1), before starting against FC Cincinnati* (July 11) during the Group Stage of the MLS is Back Tournament. Wormgoor, following an injury early in the match against FC Cincinnati, underwent successful ankle surgery on July 15, and is expected to be sidelined for approximately 4-6 months.
Wormgoor has also represented the Netherlands internationally at the Under-20 level, making two appearances (two starts) for the Dutch squad.
