BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Steres was born on November 11, 1990 in Burbank, California. He is a defender in Major League Soccer.
Steres started playing soccer with a U-11 team and played with the same team to U-19, during which the club won a Dallas Cup championship. He played four years for the Calabasas High School Coyotes soccer team. He twice was a Maramonte League selection, and was all-California Interscholastic Federation.
Steres played four years of college soccer on scholarship at San Diego State University for the San Diego State Aztecs men's soccer team between 2008 and 2011. In 2008 he was the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Most Valuable Defensive Player and SDSU/USD all-tournament team, and in 2009, he was All-Pac-10 (Honorable Mention), Pac-10 All-Academic Team (Honorable Mention), and Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central All-Tournament Team, and in 2010, he was All-Pac-10 (Second Team).
Steres was drafted 28th in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, but did not sign a contract with the team. He was selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the 2012 MLS Waiver Draft, signed with the club on June 23, 2012, and mostly played at center back for the team. In 2013, after signing with the Wilmington Hammerheads in the Premier Development League, Steres led the team in goals with seven and had three assists. He received the team's Most Valuable Player award, and was named to the 2013 USL PRO All-League Second Team.
In the 2014 season, Steres signed for LA Galaxy II in the USL Championship, and was named captain. He led the Galaxy to their first USL Championship championship. During the two seasons he was with LA Galaxy II, Steres was named Defender of the Year in both seasons.
After two seasons with LA Galaxy's reserve team, Steres was rewarded with a first-team contract on December 17, 2015. He scored in his debut against DC United on a corner kick from Mike Magee. The goal started a come-from-behind win. On December 12, 2019, the Galaxy re-signed Steres, for his fifth season. At that point he had made 102 appearances and 94 starts as a regular in the LA Galaxy backline since 2016. with seven goals and two assists from the central defense position. He was the longest-tenured player on the team.
On December 12, 2021, Steres was traded to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.
