BIOGRAPHY
Zac Gallen was born on August 3, 1995, in Somerdale, New Jersey. He is a starting pitcher in the MLB.
He attended Bishop Eustace Prep, where he was an honor roll student and earned PG Underclass Honorable Mention in 2012. After finishing high school, Gallen chose to attend the University of North Carolina.
In his first year on a college campus, he earned a spot in the weekend rotation and pitched at least 5.0 innings in his first five college starts. As a sophomore, he received a place on the second-team All-ACC, while pitching 84.0 innings and having a 2.79 ERA. In 2016, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round.
Gallen started his professional career with the Gulf Coast Cardinals, posting a 1.86 ERA, and got promoted the next year. That year in 2017 he finished the season with a combined 10-8 record and a 2.93 ERA. On December 14, 2017, the Cardinals traded Gallen to the Miami Marlins, where spent his first year with the New Orleans Baby Cakes. In 2019, Gallen got his first taste of the majors on June 20, where he struck out 6 batters. On July 31, 2019, after showing off his significant potential, the Marlins traded Gallen to the Arizona Diamondbacks for shortstop Jazz Chisholm.
In 2020, Gallen continued his success from the previous season, recording 82 strikeouts in 72 innings. In 8 starts for Arizona, Gallen was 2-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 43+2⁄3 innings, striking out 53 in the process. He also finished with an ERA of 2.75 and a 3-2 record.
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter Zac Gallen was one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball for 2022. Gallen is blazing a trail through the desert for the D-backs, while cutting down hitters with his four-seam fastball. Following Gallen’s start against the ever-dangerous San Francisco Giants, the young flamethrower threw for 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings. Gallen struck out a career-high 12 batters in “The City by the Bay”, leading Arizona to a 5-0 victory over San Francisco.
Gallen signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2024 season.
