BIOGRAPHY
Jose Trevino was born November 28, 1992, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is a catcher in the MLB.
Trevino attended St. John Paul II High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, and played college baseball at Oral Roberts University. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.
Trevino made his professional debut with the Spokane Indians where he played catcher, third base, and second base. In 2015, Trevino played for the Hickory Crawdads, after the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League. In 2016, he played for the High Desert Mavericks and won a minor league Gold Glove Award; He played in the Arizona Fall League after the season for the second consecutive year.
Trevino spent 2017 with the Frisco RoughRiders, the Rangers added Trevino to their 40-man roster after the 2017 season. He began and finished 2018 with Frisco. Trevino made his major league debut with the Rangers on June 15, 2018, in a game against the Colorado Rockies.
In 2019, Trevino was optioned to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds to open the season.
On April 2, 2022, the Rangers traded Trevino to the New York Yankees in exchange for Albert Abreu and Robert Ahlstrom.
Trevino was named an American League All-Star Reserve at catcher in 2022 after accumulating the second most catcher WAR in the AL. In 2022 he batted .248/.283/.388 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs. He won the Fielding Bible Award as the best defensive catcher in MLB and was awarded a Golden Glove for his defensive performance.
Trevino signed a one-year deal to remain with the Yankees thru 2024.
