James McArthur was born December 11, 1996, in New Braunfels, Texas. He is a pitcher in the MLB.

McArthur played college baseball at the University of Mississippi. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 12th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft. The Phillies added him to their 40-man roster after the 2021 season.

On May 8, 2023, McArthur was traded to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Junior Marin and cash considerations. In 12 games for the Triple–A Omaha Storm Chasers, McArthur registered a 4.87 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 20+1⁄3 innings pitched. On June 24, he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time. He made his major league debut against the Cleveland Guardians on June 28, but surrendered 7 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk in an inning of work; he was optioned back to Omaha the following day.
