BIOGRAPHY
Tye Smith was born on May 3rd, 1993, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a cornerback in the NFL.
Prior to his college career, Smith attended Wakefield high school. He played wide receiver and cornerback for the Wolverines. He also returned kicks and was first-team All-Cap 8 selection as a senior for Coach Jason Dinwiddle. Smith was named honorable mention all-conference as a junior.
During his freshman season in 2011, Smith appeared in 11 games. He was a starter in four games. Smith was ranked eighth on the team with 49 tackles. He recorded two tackles for lost yardage, he had one quarterback sack and broke up three passes. Smith intercepted two passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. He returned nine kickoffs for 137 yards and averaged 15.2 yards per kickoff return.
In 2012 during his sophomore season, Smith was a starter in all 11 games at cornerback. He was named third-team All-Colonial Athletic Association. Smith led Tigers with 75 tackles in 11 games. He broke up five passes, tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles, and also intercepted a pass.
During his junior season in 2013, Smith was a member of the preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association team. He was named second-team All-CAA and ranked eighth in the league in passes defended (14). Smith third on the team with 103 tackles. Smith started 15 of 16 games. He also had 4.5 tackles for a loss, one sack and two interceptions. He recorded 12 pass breakups, forced two fumbles, and recovered one. Smith was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to a win over James Madison with ten tackles, one interception, and three pass breakups.
Smith was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and was released on September 21, 2016.
On January 16, 2017, Smith signed a futures contract with the Tennessee Titans. In 2017, Smith played in a career-high 15 games in his first season with the Titans and posted career-bests with 11 tackles, an interception and eight special teams stops.
Smith re-signed with the Titans on March 13, 2019.
