Ty Summers was born on December 31, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas. He is a linebacker in the NFL.
Ty Summers was an honorable mention Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year at TCU. He was selected as the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his 23-tackle performance in the 28-21 double-overtime victory over Baylor. Summers had the most tackles in a game during the 15-season tenure of head coach Gary Patterson while tying for the sixth-best in school history. His final stop was on Baylor’s 4th-and-1 rush in the second overtime to end the game. The 23 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, tied for the most in a game by a Big 12 player since statistical records were kept in 2000. Summers took part in a tackle on 24.2 percent (23-of-95) of Baylor’s offensive plays. The 23 tackles were the most in a game since Scott Taft tied a single-game TCU record with 30 stops versus UTEP in 1997.
Summers played in all 13 games with 10 starts his sophomore year and was named second-team All-Big 12. Summers ranked second in the Big 12, behind only teammate Travin Howard, with 121 total tackles. He posted 59 solo stops and 62 assisted tackles. 121 total tackles is the fourth-best in a single-season in Gary Patterson's 16-year tenure at TCU.
Summers played in all 14 games and started nine, including one at defensive end at Oklahoma State, in his junior year. Summers was an honorable-mention All-Big 12 and second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection. He tied for fourth on the team with 64 tackles including 36 solo stops and was third on the team with 8.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. Summers posted two double-digit tackle games with season-best 11 tackles at Iowa State and against Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game.
Summers played in 10 games with eight starts his senior year. He split time between linebacker and defensive end. Summers closed his career with 319 tackles, the second-most by a Horned Frog in the 18-season tenure of head coach Gary Patterson. Summers totaled 48 tackles, including 6.5 for a loss with four sacks. Summers recorded a season-best 10 tackles against Oklahoma and nine in the 17-14 victory over Iowa State. He had at least one tackle for a loss in each of the final four games. He had sacks in his final two contests versus Baylor and in the Cheez-It Bowl victory against Cal.
Summers was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. On May 3, 2019, he signed his rookie contract with the Packers.
On December 21, 2022, the New Orleans Saints signed Summers off Jacksonville's practice squad.
