BIOGRAPHY
Michael Maurice Pennel Jr. was born on May 9th, 1991, in Topeka, Kansas. He is a nose tackle in the NFL.
During first season in college, he tallied 34 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and five sacks as a freshman in 2010, as a junior, at Scottsdale Community College, he was listed by Rivals.com as the No. 6 junior college defensive tackle and the No. 36 overall junior college prospect for 2011, rated as the No. 61 overall junior college prospect in the country by SuperPrep, regarded by Scout.com as one of the Top-13 junior college defensive tackles in the nation, totaling 37 tackles, 13 tackles-for-loss and two sacks as a sophomore at Scottsdale Community College, earning All-American honors in 2011.
He played in five games for the Sun Devils in 2012 and recorded four total tackles on the season.
After going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, Pennel signed with the Green Bay Packers on May 12, 2014. Pennel joined Jayrone Elliott as undrafted players to make the Packers roster. During his rookie season in 2014, Pennel made 13 game appearances with 8 tackles. In 2015, Pennel appeared in all 16 games, starting 5 of them with 24 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble.
Hi did not played in 2016. On February 6, 2017, Pennel was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets. He played in all 16 games in 2017, recording a career-high 35 tackles.
On March 14, 2019, Pennel signed a two-year contract with the New England Patriots. On October 19th, 2019, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.
On October 24, 2023, Pennel was signed to the Chiefs practice squad.
