Irvin Martin Smith Jr. was born on August 9, 1998, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently plays tight end in the NFL.

Prior to his college career, Smith attended Brother Martin High School. As a senior, he had 31 receptions for 558 yards and four touchdowns. During his freshman season in 2016, Smith made his first career appearance against Kentucky and has also played at Arkansas, Tennessee, and LSU, and against Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Chattanooga, Auburn, and Florida but did not record any stats. In 2017, during his sophomore season, Smith was an athletic tight end who totaled 14 catches for 128 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games of action (four starts). He was selected as one of the UA coaching staff's offensive players of the week for his play against LSU. During his junior season in 2018, He earned second-team All-America accolades from the AFCA and was selected to the All-SEC second team by the conference coaches. Smith finished fourth on the Crimson Tide with 44 receptions totaling 710 yards and his seven scores and averaged 16.1 yards per reception. Twenty-eight of his catches went for a first down or a touchdown with 11 totaling 20-plus yards. Smith selected as an offensive player of the week by the Alabama coaches for his efforts against Texas A&M. On January 11, 2019, Smith announced that he would declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted Smith Jr. in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Smith Jr joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023.
