BIOGRAPHY
Duane Anthony Brown was born on August 30th, 1985, in Richmond, Virginia. He is an offensive tackle in the NFL.
Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Brown attended its Hermitage High School and lettered in football, basketball, and track. In basketball, he averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds per game. In track, he competed in the throwing events. He finished 4th in the 2003 Group AAA outdoor shot put competition. He recorded top-throws of 17.32 meters (56.8 ft) in the shot put and 44.68 meters (146.6 ft) in the discus throw. Brown played in the Panthers’ first three games his senior year and returned for the Central Region semifinal game, catching seven passes for just under 100 yards in his limited playing time. He also recorded 15 tackles along with a pair of sacks to earn second-team All-District honors.
Brown attended Virginia Tech and earned second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognition for consecutive seasons. He was also a two-time state Offensive Lineman/End of the Year pick by the Richmond Touchdown Club. Brown recorded six tackles and blocked three kicks on special teams as a senior. He also caught three passes for 64 yards (21.3 average) and one touchdown, adding three yards on a rushing attempt.
Brown was selected by the Houston Texans in the first round with the 26th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was only the second Virginia Tech offensive lineman ever drafted in the first round of an NFL Draft, after Eugene Chung in 1992. Brown started all sixteen games as a rookie in 2008 and became the first Texans rookie lineman to start every game since Chester Pitts in 2002. On October 30, 2017, Brown was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks. Brown was named Second-team All-Pro for the 2018 season after helping revamp Seattle’s offensive line and making them the number one rushing attack in the league.
On August 15, 2022, Brown signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the New York Jets. He was signed in order to replace Mekhi Becton after he suffered a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve.
