WNBA Draft Was Quite The Spectacle

By Michael Goldman | Posted 16 days ago

The 2024 WNBA draft is over and a lot of folks are comparing this draft class to the 2003 NBA draft class...LOADED. Caitlin Clark was selected first by the Indiana Fever which came as a surprise to no one. Caitlin has had a whirlwind last few days appearing on SNL in a hilarious bit with Michael Che and she's the first WNBA/NBA player to be dressed by Prada for a draft. The Caitlin Clark affect has already begun with the recent  announcement that the Indiana Fever will have 36 of their 40 games televised on National television.

The next picks went as predicted with Cam Brink going second to the LA Sparks, Kamilla Cardoso going third to the Chicago Sky, Rickea Jackson fourth to the LA Sparks, Jacy Sheldon fifth to the Dallas Wings, Aaliyah Edwards sixth to the Washington Mystics, Angel Reese seventh to the Chicago Sky, Alissa Pili eighth to the Minnesota Lynx, Carla Leite ninth to the Dallas Wings, Leila Lacan tenth to the Connecticut Sun, Marquesha Davis eleventh to the New York Liberty and Nyadiew Puoch twelfth to the Atlanta Dream to round out the the first round.

Women's basketball is as popular as it's ever been. The 2023 WNBA season was the most watched in 17 seasons, the 2023 WNBA finals was the most watched in 20 years, the 2024 NCAA Women's tournament was the most viewed ever on ESPN platforms and the 2024 NCAA women's championship game was the most viewed of any ESPN CBB game of all time.

With all this momentum and fresh new talent entering the WNBA, the 2024/25 season should be one for the record books. Congrats to all the drafted players!
