BIOGRAPHY

Zach Wood was born January 10, 1993, in Rowlett, Texas. He is a long snapper in the NFL.

Zach Wood played high school football at Rowlett High School in Rowlett, Texas. He recorded 99 tackles, and 8 sacks his junior year. He recorded 115 tackles and 10 sacks his senior season, earning Honorable Mention Class 4A All-State honors as a defensive lineman.

Wood played for the SMU Mustangs of Southern Methodist University from 2012 to 2015. He was redshirted in 2011. He played in nine games in 2012, recording five solo tackles, four tackle assists and half a sack. He played in 12 games in 2013, all starts at defensive end, recording 25 solo tackles, 24 tackle assists, 1 sack, 1 pass breakup, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked kick.

Wood was signed as a free agent by the Saints prior to the 2017 season opener after spending parts of 2016 and 2017 competing for snapping duties with Dallas. Wood snapped for all punts and placekicks in all 16 regular season games and both postseason contests in 2018.

Because of a position change, Wood has been slimming down since entering the NFL. With initial plans of playing defensive line, he started his career at 290 pounds, but he's down to 240 pounds, a weight where he still feels strong while also being quick enough to run down the field in coverage after he snaps. As a former defensive player, Wood hopes to make some tackles in coverage.
