Will Grier

BIOGRAPHY

Will Grier was born on April 3rd, 1995, in Davidson, North Carolina. He is a quarterback in the NFL.

He attended Davidson Day School where he was coach by his father and former East Carolina standout quarterback Chad Grier. As a junior, he set a national record for single-game passing yardage as a junior in 2012 with an 837-yard, 10-touchdown performance against Harrells Christian in the playoffs.

As a senior, he Totaled 4,989 yards with a national-best 77 touchdowns and rushed for 1,251 yards with 13 touchdowns in 2013. He was named the Parade National Player of the Year, Maxwell Player of the Year and Tom Lemming Offensive Player of the Year.

He played college football at Florida and in 2014 he did not see any game action and redshirted. In 2015 he Played in six games and started five and Completed 106-of-161 passes for 1,204 yards, ten touchdowns, and three interceptions and had 36 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns with a long of 38 yards.

On April 6th, 2016, Grier announced that he was transferring to West Virginia University; he sat out the 2016 season per NCAA transfer rules. In 2017 as a junior he started 11 games, he recorded 34 passing touchdowns, and those are the second-most by WVU quarterback in a season.

He was the First player in WVU history to throw five touchdown passes in back-to-back games and Recorded 300 yards passing in nine games breaking Geno Smith’s single-season record of eight. He Ranked No. 4 in school history single-season passing yards with 3,490 and completed 250 passes in 2017, ranking No. 5 in school history.

He was named 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year (AP, ESPN.com, and coaches), All-Big 12 Second Team (ProFootballFocus), All-Big 12 Third Team (Phil Steele), All-Big 12 Fourth Team (Athlon Sports), All-Big 12 Honorable Mention (coaches) and was a Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award semifinalist.

In 2018 as a senior he started all 11 regular-season games, he Recorded 37 touchdown passes, No. 2 on WVU’s single-season list. He was named Senior CLASS Award Winner. He finished career with 71 touchdown passes and 7,354 career passing yards at West Virginia, ranking second and third in both categories in program history.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Grier in the third round (100th overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft.
