Shy Tuttle

BIOGRAPHY

Shy Tuttle was born October 20, 1995, in Midway, North Carolina. He is a defensive tackle in the National Football League.

Shy Tuttle lettered at North Davidson High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for coach Mark Holcomb. Tuttle was acclaimed as one of the `most highly recruited players' out of Northwest North Carolina by Journal Now. Tuttle began his prep career with 74 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a freshman in 2011. He had 97 tackles, 26 tackles for a loss and 18 sacks as a sophomore. Tuttle posted 67 tackles with 17 tackles for a loss with five sacks and four forced fumbles as a senior in 2014. The Knights finished with an 11-2 record his senior year.

Tuttle played collegiate football at the University of Tennessee. He played in the first six games in his first season, making 10 tackles with one fumble recovery and a blocked kick.

Tuttle made his sophomore season debut vs. Virginia (9/10), coming off bench and recording two tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass break-up. Tuttle matched his season high with two tackles (one solo) at Texas A&M (10/8). Tuttle tallied two tackles and one batted ball that resulted in an interception for Derek Barnett vs. Alabama (10/15).

Tuttle completed 27 tackles, including 2.5 TFLs in 10 games in 2017. He recovered his first fumble of the season on Kentucky’s third possession of the game, leading to a field goal attempt for the Vols (10/28). Tuttle collected five tackles vs. both Southern Miss and LSU, tying a career high. He also recording a career-high 1.5 tackles for loss vs. the Golden Eagles.

Tuttle wrapped up his collegiate career by starting all 12 games in 2018, and finishing with 33 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, one sack, two QB hurries, one interception and two blocked kicks. Tuttle tied a career-high with five tackles and made the first sack of his career while starting at NT for the Vols vs. West Virginia (9/1). Tuttle had his first-career interception and blocked a PAT while recording two tackles at South Carolina (10/27) and blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt and added three tackles to help the Vols to a 24-7 upset win over No. 11 Kentucky (11/10). Tuttle received the “Trenches Award” at the year-end banquet.

Tuttle signed a 3-year contract with the New Orleans Saints in 2019 and on March 13, 2022, Tuttle agreed to a three year contract with the Carolina Panthers.
